Google begins rolling out new integrated Gmail view to users

Google has begun rolling out a new integrated Gmail view for users who have enabled chat. The new experience puts a bar on the left side of your Gmail inbox for quick access to other Google services such as Chat, Spaces and Meet.

To get the new experience, go to your Gmail settings (click View All Settings in the dropdown) and then on the Chat & Meeting tab, make sure Google Chat is selected as the Chat option, then click Save Changes. Once you turn on chat, you’ll see Chat, Spaces, and Meet on the left side of Gmail. To get the new interface, click the settings gear for the drop-down menu and click Try the new Gmail look.

Immediately you will notice the use of a cleaner Material 3 interface. The new interface also uses search chips , which make it much easier to find the right email. To access chips, simply enter your query in the search field, and above the results, search chips will allow you to filter by sender, recipient, etc.

If you don’t like the new Gmail interface, and some people inevitably won’t, Google will keep the option for you to revert back to the previous version. In addition, you will be able to go to the settings drop-down and customize the items that are in the sidebar so that you can turn off those items that you do not use.
