Exciting New Features Coming to Google Messages
Google Messages is gearing up to introduce a series of innovative features designed to elevate the user experience in messaging. Among these enhancements is a noteworthy addition that closely mirrors functionality found in WhatsApp, allowing users to select the photo resolution prior to sending.
Photo Resolution Selection: A New User-Friendly Option
For those familiar with WhatsApp, the app currently facilitates a choice between standard and high-quality options when sending images or videos. Opting for “standard”delivers a lower-quality file, which utilizes less data and is quicker to send. Conversely, selecting “high quality”transmits the files without compression, but at the expense of speed and increased data usage.
In the most recent Android beta version of Google Messages (version messages.android_20241029_00_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic), users have noticed the appearance of “HD”and “HD+”icons within the Photo Picker interface. Screenshots reveal two clear options for photo transmission: Optimized for Chat (ensures faster delivery at reduced quality) and Original Quality (sends the file without alterations, necessitating more data).
Enhanced Security with Sensitive Content Warnings
In addition to photo resolution options, Google Messages is also piloting a vital security measure aimed at shielding users from unsolicited nude images. Last month, Google introduced the Sensitive Content Warnings feature. This tool grants users greater control over the nudity-related content they receive and share, automatically blurring images that may contain explicit content, thereby preventing any unexpected visuals from catching recipients off guard.
A recent examination of the Google Messages app (version messages.android_20241029_00_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic) has unveiled coding strings that clarify the functionality of this new feature. Users will receive various prompts related to the risks of sharing sensitive images:
“Take care when sharing images that may contain nudity.
The person in this photo may not have agreed to share it with others.
Once shared, others can save or share it without your knowledge.
If you feel pressured, consider discussing this with someone you trust.”
The code snippet indicates that both the sender and receiver of nude images will be alerted with warnings. Messages like “You’re seeing this because sensitive content warnings are on” will pop up, giving users the liberty to decide whether they wish to view or disregard the content. They will also have options to block contacts or delete messages, further enhancing user autonomy over their interactions.
These groundbreaking features, including the customizable photo resolution and sensitive content warnings, are anticipated to be rolled out in future updates of the Google Messages application.
