Recently, it has been reported that Google Meet for Android may introduce the “Take notes for me”feature, which is powered by Gemini. This innovative feature is designed to assist users by not only transcribing but also summarizing meetings and discussions in real-time.
Although this feature has yet to be publicly released, another update is making its way to the Google Meet Android app. Google Meet is now equipped with a redesigned call screen that includes the ‘Start a call’ feature. This enhancement was initially rolled out to Google Meet enterprise users late last year and is now accessible to users with free Google accounts as well.
The new ‘Start a call’ interface in Google Meet features a pill-shaped search bar at the top. Beneath it, there are large buttons that enable users to create meeting links, schedule meetings, and start a new group. Additionally, the updated call screen presents a “Suggestions”section, which provides quick access to recent contacts in a larger grid format, rather than displaying all contacts.
Thanks to the “Suggestions”section, users can quickly initiate a meeting without sifting through an extensive contacts list. Furthermore, Google Meet will also feature a new home screen shortcut for starting meetings using a code, which can be found in the search bar on the home screen. Tapping this option will lead users to a ‘Join with a code’ page.
The newly introduced ‘Start a call’ feature is available in the Android app version 266, which has recently begun to roll out to users. If you do not see the ‘Start a call’ screen or the Code shortcut after updating, you can attempt to force-close the app and restart it.
Additionally, keep in mind that this update might take some time to reach every Google Meet user. Therefore, be patient as you wait for the latest update to arrive on your device.
