Google Meet Update: New Summaries Feature for “Take Notes for Me” Recap Emails

Google Meet Enhances “Take Notes for Me”Feature with New Updates

In August 2023, Google launched an innovative feature for its Meet video conferencing platform, known as “Take notes for me”.Powered by Gemini AI, this tool is designed to transcribe and summarize meetings efficiently. Following the conclusion of each call, users receive an email containing a link to a Google Document filled with the generated meeting notes. Recently, Google has made significant improvements to the follow-up email, making it far more informative.

Interactive Recap Emails

Users will no longer have to navigate to a separate tab to access meeting summaries. The recap email itself will now feature a comprehensive overview of the meeting, along with a list of “suggested next steps”.This new layout allows participants to quickly understand the outcomes and responsibilities assigned during the meeting, all from their inbox.

Enhanced Control for Meeting Organizers

Google has also empowered meeting hosts and co-hosts by providing them with more control over the distribution of recap notes. Now, those using a web browser can specify the recipients of these notes, selecting from options such as all invited guests, only attendees within the same organization, or just the hosts and co-hosts. This customizable sharing preference will remain consistent for the current meeting and for any recurring meetings scheduled in the series.

Rolling Out to Users

This update is currently being gradually rolled out, with Google classifying it as an “extended rollout”.Therefore, it may take more than 15 days for all users to access the feature. Those on the Rapid Release track—receiving new features before others—will have the advantage of seeing the update sooner than those on the Scheduled Release track, although a bit of patience will still be needed.

Availability for Google Workspace Subscribers

The updated feature is accessible to specific Google Workspace subscribers, including Business Standard and Plus, as well as Enterprise Standard and Plus users. Additionally, it is available to all individuals subscribed to Gemini Enterprise and the AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons.

Additional Updates for Google Meet

In further developments related to Google Meet, the platform is streamlining the process for presenting physical objects during calls. Recently, Google introduced an option that allows users to present directly from their camera feed, a beneficial feature for educators who utilize document cameras. This capability supports video resolution of up to 1080p at 30FPS and has already begun its rollout last month.
