Google Enhances Meet and Calendar for All Users

Google has recently introduced significant updates to its Meet and Calendar applications, which will benefit both Google Workspace users and individuals with personal Google accounts.

Improved Meeting Invitations

One noteworthy enhancement is particularly beneficial for users who do not typically utilize Google Calendar, such as those who prefer Outlook. With this improvement, when a Google Calendar user sends out a meeting invitation via Google Meet, the meeting link will now be automatically included in the location field. This change simplifies the process, eliminating the need to sift through event details when it’s time to join a meeting.

Simplified Guest Management

For adding participants to your event, the process remains user-friendly. Simply open Google Calendar on your computer, select the event you wish to edit, and locate the “Guests”section on the right side. You can start typing a contact’s name or enter their full email address to send invitations, even if they are not already in your contacts. Non-Google Calendar users will receive an email invitation featuring clear response options: Yes, No, or Maybe, providing a seamless experience for all invitees.

Automatic Detection of Meet Links

In addition to enhancing outgoing invitations, Google Calendar now boasts the ability to recognize Google Meet links from incoming invitations sent via different calendar applications. This means that if someone invites you from another app, Google Calendar will automatically identify the Meet link embedded within the description or location fields, further streamlining the experience.

Rollout Timeline

These new features are beginning to roll out and may take up to 15 days to become visible, depending on your account type, whether it’s a Rapid Release or Scheduled Release.

Advancements in Video Quality and Notes Feature

The updates are complemented by a new functionality called “present from camera, ”allowing users to share video at an impressive quality of up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. This feature is especially beneficial for sharing physical documents using document cameras or for presenting different perspectives via secondary cameras.

Additionally, Google has also improved the “Take notes for me”feature by integrating AI-generated summaries directly into recap emails, rather than just providing a link to a document. Hosts and co-hosts now have the ability to control who has access to these notes, ensuring that essential information is managed more effectively.
