Google Meet Introduces New Full-Screen Video Feed Interface on Android
Google has unveiled a significant update for the Google Meet app on Android, introducing a revamped user interface that enhances the experience for all users. Currently being rolled out, the new UI features an edge-to-edge video interface, creating a “more streamlined, space-efficient experience”for video calls.
In contrast to the previous interface, the new design eliminates margins around the video feed. This streamlined setup enhances the appearance of one-on-one calls and is also compatible with landscape orientation.
At the top of the interface, users will find “clearer indicators for essential information such as the meeting title,”displayed within a pill-shaped container. Additionally, the buttons for video on/off, mic toggle, wave, overflow menu, and end call are now organized in a container located at the bottom of the video feed. This layout aligns more closely with the web version of Google Meet.
With these enhancements, Google aims to provide users with a “richer, more immersive viewing experience.”The new edge-to-edge UI is rolling out to Google Meet users on Android devices, including phones, tablets, and large-screen devices. This updated user interface is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
In addition to the Android update, Google has also introduced a new feature for Google Meet users on the web. This feature enables Google Meet to automatically switch to picture-in-picture (PiP) mode when users navigate between tabs, allowing them to explore other websites while staying engaged in the call and watching the video feed.
Another recently added feature is “Take notes for me,”which is part of the Google Gemini suite of AI tools. This feature utilizes Google AI to transcribe and summarize meetings in real time, enabling users to concentrate on the discussions rather than jotting down important notes.
This functionality can also prove beneficial for sharing critical details about a meeting with those who were unable to attend.
