Google launches Enterprise-Grade AI Coding with Gemini Code Assist

Gemini Code Assist provides AI-driven support for software developers, facilitating the creation, deployment, and management of applications throughout the software development process. Compatible with well-known IDEs such as VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, Gemini Code Assist enables developers to receive code completions, automatically generate functions or code segments from comments, and create unit tests, among other features. A standout aspect of Gemini Code Assist is its ability to deliver context-aware responses tailored to the developers’ inquiries.

Recently, Google introduced Gemini Code Assist Enterprise, aimed at providing robust AI support specifically for enterprise software developers. Leveraging Gemini’s expansive context window, developers can obtain more pertinent responses thanks to an in-depth understanding of their codebase. Additionally, enterprises can personalize Gemini Code Assist to align with their internal guidelines and libraries. Notably, the code customization feature for Gemini Code Assist Enterprise allows indexing of repositories from both GitHub.com and GitLab.com. Google plans to incorporate support for more source control solutions and self-hosted on-premises repositories by early 2025.

In addition to its integration with IDEs, Code Assist Enterprise will also extend its coding support to various Google services, such as Firebase, Databases, BigQuery, Colab Enterprise, Apigee, and Application Integration. It’s important to note that the integration of Gemini Code Assist in BigQuery, Apigee, and Application Integration will be exclusive to customers on the Enterprise plan.

As anticipated, Google has confirmed that Code Assist Enterprise will not utilize any private enterprise code for training the Gemini model. The code that is retained for customization purposes is secured within a Google Cloud managed project, ensuring isolation for each customer’s organization.

Currently, Gemini Code Assist is compatible with over 20 programming languages, including Java, JavaScript, Python, C, C++, Go, PHP, and SQL. Gemini Code Assist Standard remains free until November 8, 2024. Meanwhile, the newly launched Gemini Code Assist Enterprise is priced at $19 per user per month with a 12-month commitment until March 31, 2025, after which the cost will rise to $45 per user monthly. For reference, GitHub Copilot Enterprise is priced at $39 per user monthly.
