Google is developing a Download Manager feature for the Play Store
Google is currently enhancing the Play Store by developing a new feature that will showcase apps specifically designed for tablets and automobiles. This initiative may be linked to the Car-ready mobile apps program introduced during the Google I/O 2024 event.
The most recent APK Teardown of the Play Store app version 42.9.16-3 has unveiled a series of identifiers associated with a download manager feature. Although these identifiers don’t provide extensive details about how the download manager will function, they imply that it could help organize app downloads. Many users often struggle to remember recently installed applications, and this download manager might serve as a solution to that dilemma.
The relevant strings concerning the Play Store’s download manager include:

AppOpenDownloadManager__enable_recent_downloads_sorted_by_install_time
AppOpenDownloadManager__enable_recent_downloads_sorted_by_schedule_time
The team at Android Authority successfully activated this feature, providing a glimpse into how the Google Play Store download manager could operate once it’s officially available to all users. The download manager would display a list of apps currently in the downloading process, along with any recently installed applications that remain unopened.
Upon opening an app from the download manager, the list is cleared. Furthermore, Google plans to introduce a badge located at the upper right corner, adjacent to the three-dot menu icon, indicating the count of apps and games that have recently been downloaded.
Nevertheless, a crucial functionality typically expected from a download manager—such as the ability to pause and resume downloads—is currently absent from this version. Given the increasing sizes of apps and games, this feature would be particularly beneficial, especially for users with limited mobile data plans that reset daily.
It’s important to note that this feature is not yet active in the Play Store, and Google has not made any announcements regarding its availability. Therefore, its future release remains uncertain.
