Google Introduces Enhanced Device Protection with Pixel Care+
In a recent announcement, Google unveiled its latest device protection initiative, Pixel Care+, aimed at safeguarding its range of Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and Fitbit wearables. This new program replaces the existing Google Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection plans, offering users a more comprehensive coverage experience.
This rollout follows a significant refresh of devices, with the recent launch of the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, alongside the new Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a during a hardware event in New York City.
Comprehensive Coverage Features
Pixel Care+ is designed to provide a robust safety net for users, featuring increased coverage for various hardware repairs. Notably, the program claims $0 deductible costs for common repairs related to devices’ batteries and displays.
According to their official blog post, the benefits of embracing this program include:
- Unlimited claims for accidental damage and mechanical failures
- No charge for screen and battery repairs
- $0 deductible for claims regarding post-warranty malfunctions
- Access to genuine Google parts for replacements
- Priority support from Pixel experts
- Convenient self-service claims through the Google Store website
- Optional coverage for loss and theft
Comparison with Predecessor Programs
In contrast, the previous Google Preferred Care plan imposed limitations on claims, allowing for only two accidental damage claims within a rolling 12-month window and required a $29 service charge for cracked screen repairs. This change signifies a substantial enhancement in value for Pixel users.
Partnership with Asurion
Google has allied with Asurion to administer the Pixel Care+ program, enhancing the overall customer experience by providing free shipping for replacements, including expedited next-day deliveries. The improved claims process now facilitates easier access to repairs and replacements for users.

Currently, the Pixel Care+ program is available within the United States for a variety of devices, including:

Claims can also be effortlessly filed via the Google Store website or the My Pixel app.
Subscription Options and Add-ons
Pixel Care+ subscriptions are available on a monthly basis for up to 60 months or as a two-year fixed term. For instance, users can start a monthly plan for the Pixel 10 at $9, or a two-year subscription for $179. The monthly cost starts at $5 for the Pixel Watch 4 and $16 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Additionally, users can opt for a Lost and Theft add-on for their plans, which necessitates a deductible based on the specific model. It’s essential to note that the $0 service charge for battery replacement applies only when the battery capacity falls below 80%.
Transition for Current Subscribers
In the coming months, Google plans to transition existing subscribers of Google Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection in the US to the upgraded Pixel Care+ program, ensuring they also benefit from the new offerings.
