
Introducing Google’s AI Quests: An Innovative Learning Experience for Students
In an exciting collaboration with the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, Google has launched a pioneering initiative called AI Quests. This program encourages students to engage as researchers, utilizing artificial intelligence to explore pressing challenges in areas such as climate change, health, and scientific inquiry through interactive games. Immersive Adventures Designed for Learning
AI Quests are expertly crafted to educate young minds about the principles of AI without requiring any coding knowledge. Inspired by real-life AI research conducted at Google, these quests aim to tackle significant societal issues. Each adventure features an in-game mentor, Professor Skye, designed to guide students through structured lesson plans and resourceful teacher guides. After completing these engaging adventures, students are rewarded with video messages from the actual researchers whose work served as the foundation for the game’s design.
The Quests: Challenges and Learning Outcomes
The inaugural quest, titled Market Marshes, is currently available and focuses on the critical task of flood prediction, drawing on Google’s own Flood Forecasting studies. In this adventure, students gather data related to rainfall and river flows, assess the data’s reliability, and train AI models to forecast upcoming floods effectively. This practical exercise offers insights into the use of AI in real-world scenarios.
Additional quests include Dusky Dunes, which empowers students to use AI to identify diabetic retinopathy—an eye condition that can lead to vision loss—and Polar Peaks, which engages learners in connecting brain mapping with Connectomics research.
