Google Unveils Major AI Shopping Update in Time for Holiday Season

As we approach the bustling holiday shopping season, Google has announced an exciting “major AI shopping update.”This initiative introduces several innovative features designed to enhance the online shopping experience, including conversational product searches, automated calls to stores for inventory inquiries, and an AI agent capable of making purchases automatically when items go on sale.

Enhanced Conversational AI for Shopping Queries

The updated AI Mode has significantly improved its ability to handle shopping-related inquiries in a more human-like, conversational manner. Users can simply voice their desires, such as “cozy sweaters for happy hour in warm autumn colors, ” and the AI will respond with a wealth of information, including pricing, reviews, and availability. It can display this data in visually engaging formats, such as shoppable images or comparison tables for those deliberating between different products.

Powered by Gemini 2.5: A More Interactive Shopping Experience

Originally launched in March, AI Mode utilizes a customized version of Gemini 2.5, paving the way for a truly interactive search experience. This intelligent system can engage with users, understanding complex questions and refining results seamlessly. Recently, the feature has been integrated into the Chrome browser for both iOS and Android, easily accessible via a new button located next to the Incognito mode on the “New Tab”page.

Gemini App: A Personalized Shopping Assistant

In addition to web features, the Gemini app allows users to inquire about specific shopping needs and receive tailored product suggestions within the chat interface. The rollout includes dynamic shoppable product listings, comparative pricing, and offer insights from various retailers, currently available to all Gemini users across the United States.

Automated Store Calls and Agentic Checkout Features

For U. S.shoppers, Google has launched a new feature on the Search interface labeled “Let Google Call.” This service, which leverages Google Duplex in tandem with Gemini, empowers users to find specific products near them. By clicking the button, Google’s AI will directly reach out to local stores to inquire about availability, pricing, and promotional offers, delivering responses via email or text. This capability extends to various categories, including toys, electronics, and health and beauty products.

Convenient Price Tracking and AI Checkout Options

Additionally, an upcoming enhancement to the Search functionality introduces an “agentic checkout”feature. This function allows users to establish price tracking for items, generating alerts when prices drop. For selected retailers, Google will even offer the ability to use AI to complete purchases through Google Pay, always prompting user approval before finalizing any transactions. Notable merchants participating in this new feature include Wayfair, Chewy, and Quince, enhancing your shopping convenience.
