Google Gemini Competes with ChatGPT by Introducing ‘Scheduled Actions’ Feature

OpenAI Introduces Scheduled Tasks in ChatGPT

In January, OpenAI unveiled a groundbreaking feature that allows users to schedule tasks within ChatGPT. This capability enables users to automate prompts and receive proactive notifications on a set timetable. Currently, scheduled tasks are compatible with the o3 and o4-mini models and are accessible across various platforms, including ChatGPT Web, iOS, Android, and macOS.

Practical Use Cases for Scheduled Tasks

With this feature, users can streamline their daily routines by setting reminders and information delivery. For instance, someone might say, “Please provide me with a briefing on tech industry news every morning at 8 AM, ”or “Remind me about my friend’s birthday on June 10th.”Such capabilities enhance user engagement by ensuring that important tasks are not overlooked.

Google Introduces Competing Feature: Scheduled Actions

In a competitive response, Google recently launched a similar function called scheduled actions for Gemini users. Much like ChatGPT’s scheduled tasks, this feature allows users to request Gemini to perform tasks at designated times using either voice commands or text. Additionally, Gemini facilitates recurring actions, adding another layer of convenience. Users can easily manage their scheduled tasks through the settings interface.

Availability and Task Management

This new scheduled actions feature is particularly valuable for users on premium plans, including Google AI Pro, Ultra subscriptions, and Google Workspace for business and educational institutions. In contrast to ChatGPT’s limitation of having only 10 active tasks simultaneously, Google has yet to reveal any restrictions regarding Gemini’s scheduled actions. If ChatGPT users reach their task quota, they must pause or delete an existing task to make room for new ones. It remains to be seen whether Google will introduce similar management options for Gemini users.

The Future of AI Assistants in Task Management

As AI scheduling features from both OpenAI and Google evolve, they are set to enhance how users interact with their digital assistants. These tools are rapidly establishing themselves as essential components in managing daily tasks and workflows, allowing users to focus on what truly matters.
