Expansion of Google Developer Program Monthly Plans
Google has announced a significant expansion of its Google Developer Program, increasing the availability of monthly subscription plans to a total of thirteen countries. Originally introduced in August 2023, this monthly subscription—priced at $24.99—was initially exclusive to the United States.
New Monthly Options for India and Italy
In a recent move, developers in India and Italy can now opt for a monthly payment plan when selecting either the Premium or Enterprise subscriptions of the Google Developer Program. Previously restricted to annual payments priced at $299 per year, this shift offers greater flexibility for developers in these regions.
Features of Google Developer Program Plans
The Google Developer Program includes a basic no-cost Standard plan that features tools such as Gemini Cost Assist
, Gemini CLI
, and access to 10 Firebase Studio workspaces. For those opting for the Premium plan, which enhances the Standard offerings, developers will enjoy increased limits on Gemini CLI
usage, up to 30 Firebase Studio workspaces, alongside valuable cloud credits for experimenting with Gemini models.
Exciting Updates: Gemini CLI Extensions
In addition to the subscription updates, Gemini CLI has introduced a new extensions feature that facilitates the integration of various tools within this AI-powered command line, enhancing functionality for developers.
Localized Pricing in India
With the updates, developers in India can now access the Premium plan more affordably, with a rate of INR 1, 000/month (approximately $11.27) or an annual plan for INR 12, 000/year ($135.23).

Availability of Monthly Plans Across Various Regions
The monthly subscription option is currently available in several countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Poland, Singapore, and the Netherlands. Google has confirmed plans to roll out support for even more countries in the coming weeks.
Google Developer Program Launches in China
Additionally, the Google Developer Program is now expanding into China. Developers there can establish and manage their profiles via WeChat, maintain full control over profile visibility, earn badges for educational milestones, and customize their content feeds.
Upcoming Global DevFest Events
Accompanying this expansion, Google will host a series of DevFest events worldwide from October through December. These events are organized by local Google Developer Groups, allowing developers to network with Google employees and industry experts to explore emerging technologies in AI, cloud computing, mobile development, and web technologies.
Subscription Trends for Google
This move highlights Google’s trend toward increasing subscription services, as evidenced by the recent discontinuation of the Nest Aware subscription in favor of new alternatives for smart home devices. Additionally, the Google AI Plus subscription has expanded its reach to more markets, underscoring the company’s focus on diversifying its subscription offerings.
