Google Enhances Gemini Live Support for Over 40 Languages

Google has announced today the expansion of Gemini Live to over 40 languages. This enhancement will allow users to engage in natural conversations with Gemini in their chosen language, moving beyond just English.

As of today, Gemini Live supports the following languages, with additional languages being introduced in the upcoming weeks:

  • German (Germany)
  • English (Australia)
  • English (India)
  • English (United Kingdom)
  • English (United States)
  • Spanish (United States)
  • French (France)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Hindi (India)

Gemini Live will enable conversations in up to two languages on a single device. To set this up on a compatible Android device, open the Google app and tap your profile picture or initials in the top left corner. Then go to Settings > Google Assistant > Languages to select a supported language. You can also add a second language if necessary.

In conjunction with the launch of Gemini Live, Google has also expanded Gemini Extensions to more languages. These extensions let users seamlessly connect with applications like Gmail, Maps, Google Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and YouTube directly from within Gemini, making it easier to accomplish tasks. For instance, users can instruct Gemini to remind them in 10 days to purchase tickets for a concert they discovered during a Gemini conversation.

If you have a Gemini Advanced subscription, follow these steps to access Gemini Live on your Android device:

  1. Open the Gemini mobile app, or if “Hey Google”is enabled, simply say “Hey Google.”
  2. Tap the Live icon located at the bottom of the Gemini overlay.
  3. If it’s your first time accessing it, follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Once set up, you can start talking.
  5. To turn off the microphone, either say “stop”or tap the Hold or End buttons on the screen.

Note that Gemini Live is unavailable when the device is locked. You must unlock your device to initiate the feature.
