Google Introduces Enhanced Summarization Feature for Forms
In June, Google launched an innovative feature linked to its Gemini AI, allowing users to generate comprehensive summaries for responses to short-answer and paragraph questions within Forms. Recently, the tech giant has announced an important update to this feature, now available to various subscribers, including those on Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and several Google AI Pro plans.
How Summarization Originally Worked
The initial functionality permitted users to summarize responses for each short-answer or paragraph question containing between 3 and 200 answers. This process required users to go to the “Responses”tab and manually click a “Summarize responses”button for each question.
Streamlined New Process
With the latest update, Google has streamlined this experience significantly. Now, upon accessing the “Responses”tab, Gemini automatically begins generating summaries for all eligible questions, removing the need for manual activation. This enhancement eliminates extra steps and improves workflow efficiency.
Customization Options and Limitations
Users can still utilize the “Retry”button to create a different summary if they find the initial output unsatisfactory. However, several existing limitations remain. For instance, the summarization feature is currently only available on desktop and is exclusive to the English language. Consequently, users looking for mobile compatibility or support for multiple languages will have to wait for future updates. Additionally, it’s important to note that the generated summaries are not stored within the form itself, so users need to manually save any information they wish to retain.
Rollout Schedule
The new functionality began rolling out to subscribers on Rapid Release domains on September 15. Google anticipates that it will take up to 15 days for the feature to become available to all users. For organizations on Scheduled Release domains, the rollout is set to commence on October 6, extending the wait for some to experience these enhancements.
