Google Calendar May Introduce Toggle Feature to Limit Fun
In September, Google Calendar unveiled a fresh set of illustrations tailored for various events. Alongside this, the app received updated monthly visuals, refreshing its interface on Android devices. However, Google has now introduced a new user option for those who feel overwhelmed by these illustrations, enabling them to disable this feature entirely. This enhancement empowers users to personalize their visual experience within the Calendar app.
With the recent update to the Google Calendar Android app (version 2024.42.0-687921584-release), a new setting has appeared in the menu. These event illustrations, referred to as “flairs,”are automatically generated images that adorn specific events and months in the calendar display.
For instance, if a coffee meetup is scheduled, the event will feature a relevant illustration. Similarly, birthday events will display festive symbols, like a birthday cake. Moreover, these “flairs”are also utilized to illustrate seasonal events and holidays.
The latest feature allows users to toggle off the “Show event illustration”option entirely. As reported by Android Authority, they provided screenshots demonstrating the Calendar app’s appearance without illustrations, which may come across as somewhat bland. However, for users desiring a more information-dense calendar view, disabling the illustrations may prove beneficial, allowing for more events to fit on the screen.
It’s worth noting that this setting to disable illustrations currently pertains only to individual events and does not impact the automatically applied monthly or seasonal illustrations. Interestingly, the option to turn off event flairs isn’t entirely new; it has existed for quite a while on tablets and high-DPI screens. This is the first instance where the toggle has been identified on smartphone versions.
