Google and Range Media Launch “AI on Screen”Initiative

Over the forthcoming 18 months, Google plans to collaborate with Range to commission original narratives from talented filmmakers who can articulate this intricate bond. This theme has continued through iconic works such as the intelligent droids of Star Wars, Rosie the robot from The Jetsons, and J. A.R. V.I. S.in Iron Man.

The exploration has advanced in modern cinema too. The critically acclaimed film Her (2013), featuring Scarlett Johansson as a voice AI, dives into the complexities of relationships between humans and intelligent systems. The other, Lucid, portrays a couple desperately trying to escape their stifling reality, who risk everything on a groundbreaking dream-sharing device.

The initiative is open to a variety of creative ideas across multiple genres, spanning science fiction, drama, and thrillers. Google encourages interested filmmakers to pitch their project ideas directly to Range Media, with aspirations to potentially transform some short films into full-length feature films.

Expanding AI Beyond Chatbots

This venture is part of Google’s broader commitment to exploring the role of AI in diverse fields. Notably, the company has also collaborated with the Las Vegas Sphere to reinvent an 86-year-old film for a stunning 160, 000-square-foot LED screen.
