Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs: Players stats and box scores for March 31, 2024
The Golden State Warriors (39-34) recently went head-to-head with the San Antonio Spurs (18-56). As the game approached its end, the Warriors were determined to secure their spot in the upcoming NBA Play-In Tournament. With the Houston Rockets (38-35) only one game behind, Golden State is at risk of being eliminated from the Play-In race.
Despite the given circumstances, the Warriors were unable to rise to the occasion in the first quarter as the Spurs, who were believed to be intentionally losing, put forth their best effort and gained a 34-27 lead in the initial period. Both Malaki Branham and Zach Collins played a pivotal role for San Antonio, with each contributing eight points.
In an effort to keep the game competitive, Golden State evenly distributed their scoring with four players – Steph Curry, Chris Paul, Brandin Podziemski, and Klay Thompson – each contributing five points in an attempt to match the Spurs’ energy.
The San Antonio Spurs increased their advantage by an additional point during the second quarter, resulting in a 60-52 lead at the end of the first half. Cedi Osman rose to the challenge and contributed 11 points to the Spurs’ score.
Thankfully, the Golden State Warriors were able to keep their disadvantage in check with the help of Steph Curry and Moses Moody. Curry contributed seven additional points, while Moody sank two crucial 3-pointers, adding six points to their score.
In the third quarter, the Warriors rallied and took the lead with a score of 89-81. This marked their first lead in three quarters. The team’s experienced players, Curry and Green, stepped up and showed their leadership. Curry contributed nine more points in the quarter, reaching a total of 20 points. Meanwhile, Green added 11 points, demonstrating his value to the team despite his on-court antics.
Ultimately, the Warriors were able to come out on top with a 117-113 win against the Spurs in a challenging situation. Steph Curry and Draymond Green stepped up and delivered, with Curry showcasing his offensive skills by scoring a total of 33 points. On the other hand, Green put on a dominant performance with a double-double and impressive defensive plays. He recorded 21 points, 11 assists, and six steals, solidifying Golden State’s position in the top 10 of the Western Conference.
