“Go to Hell!” Trump’s Unmerry Christmas Greeting Sparks Controversy

In a surprising twist, incoming President Donald Trump used his holiday message to unleash criticism against his political opponents and foreign nations, showing that even the festive season could not temper his contentious rhetoric.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump began his missive with a “Merry Christmas to all,” but quickly pivoted to more controversial statements. He targeted China, claiming, “Merry Christmas to all, including to the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal.” He further accused China of shifting the financial burden of canal repairs onto the United States—an alarming assertion that set an unfestive tone right from the start.

Not stopping at international matters, Trump then directed his ire towards Canada and its Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. In a pointed jab, he referred to Trudeau as “Governor” instead of “Prime Minister,” suggesting that Canadian citizens face excessively high taxes. Trump proposed that Canada should become the “51st state” of the US, asserting this would result in a 60% tax cut and a significant expansion for Canadian businesses, along with unparalleled military protection. This bizarre suggestion drew on ongoing jokes among Trump’s supporters regarding the conquest of Canada, which appear to have lost their humor.

The former president didn’t shy away from criticizing the political left in his message. He labeled his adversaries as “radical left lunatics” who are allegedly trying to undermine the judicial system and electoral processes. In an even more shocking remark, Trump referenced 37 individuals on death row who had received clemency under President Joe Biden, proclaiming that those individuals would likely face execution upon his return to power. He concluded this portion of his speech with a blunt dismissal: “I refuse to wish a Merry Christmas to those lucky ‘souls’ but, instead, will say, GO TO HELL!” Biden was warned.

Reactions on Social Media

Trump’s holiday address left many social media users dumbfounded. One Twitter user exclaimed, “Oh my god, he’s not joking.” The reaction highlights the shock and disbelief surrounding his digressive holiday remarks. Another user wished he would “just say happy holidays to one and all and log off for the day.” Public sentiment reflected a consensus that a sincere Christmas message is not the setting for such sarcasm.

While public discourse often embraces humor, it’s clear that some occasions—such as the Christmas season—are better suited for heartfelt sentiments rather than biting sarcasm.
