The ninth season of The Real Housewives of Potomac made its debut on Sunday, October 6, on Bravo, showcasing the intricate lives of the housewives as they navigate their careers and personal struggles.
This season, fans will see the return of stars Gizelle Bryant, Karen Huger, Wendy Osefo, Ashley Darby, and Mia Thornton, alongside newcomers Keiarna Stewart and Stacey Rusch, who join as full-time cast members. Additionally, Jassi Rideaux and Jacqueline Blake appear as friends of the group.
The season opener featured a significant conversation between Gizelle and Karen regarding the latter’s recent DUI incident. Gizelle expressed her shock upon learning about the accident, saying it “shook”her to think something could happen to her friend. She remarked:
“Knowing you, I can’t imagine you doing anything reckless. When I saw the DUI and DWI citations, I thought, ‘This just isn’t the Karen I know.’ It felt very out of character.”
Karen Discloses Her DUI Experience
Diving deeper into the incident, Karen explained to Gizelle that her DUI case was a legal matter she was currently addressing and reassured her friend not to be concerned—she was still the same person she had always been.
Gizelle, however, pressed for more clarity regarding the charges, displaying her concern for Karen. Yet, Karen remained defensive, indicating that she would provide details when the time was right.
In a confessional segment, Gizelle addressed her intentions, clarifying that she meant no harm and was simply looking out for Karen. She stated:
“I’m not trying to stir up trouble here. My aim is just to be there for her because I care deeply.”
Karen subsequently opened up about the emotional toll related to her experiences, seeking support from her husband, Raymond (Ray) Huger.
She shared that they are undergoing significant challenges, and while she does not hold Ray accountable for the difficulties, she longs for his emotional support. Karen reflected on her previous silence, feeling regret for “not speaking up before.”She elaborated in her confessional that her hardships factored into the incidents leading up to her DUI.
“All the struggles I’ve faced contributed to my accident… grief, [and] marital issues. Everything ties back to my emotional state during that time,”she confessed.
In their conversation, Karen revealed feelings of extreme emotional distress, exacerbated by her husband’s challenges and the loss of her parent, which hindered her self-care. Gizelle consoled her, noting that she typically carries herself with grace, the Karen she recognizes.
As their dialogue continued, a waiter brought over a complimentary doughnut, highlighting Karen’s status as a frequent visitor at their restaurant, adding that she “never had a drink”there. Gizelle reacted in her confessional:
“This feels orchestrated. Clearly, Karen has instructed the staff to convey that she’s not out drinking… ever. She might have even slipped them something.”
