Did you follow the original Night Court series?

Gilles Marini: My mom adored it, and I’ve definitely watched it myself. The comedy style back then had a distinct tone that contrasts with today’s humor. This new season feels more like a “newboot” rather than a straightforward reboot since it embodies many changes while maintaining the core premise.

I genuinely appreciate everyone involved in this show, from the makeup crew to the executive producers. It’s rare to find such camaraderie on set, and the entire team truly enjoys each other’s company here, which makes my experience exceptionally fulfilling.

You’ve been part of various projects; have you performed in front of a live studio audience before?

Gilles Marini: Yes! Wendie Malick and I previously worked together on *Hot in Cleveland* with the legendary Betty White. Meeting Wendie 15 years ago was a highlight and I’ve always considered her one of the most remarkable individuals in Hollywood.

Rodrigo’s purpose is to provoke jealousy in Dan; what was your experience acting alongside John Larroquette?

Gilles Marini: Playing off John was fantastic; my character creates a spark between them by serving as the exact opposite of what they expect. John is an imposing figure, standing nearly six-five, and meeting him for the first time was quite an experience—I refrained from mentioning my mother’s admiration for him. Sharing screen time with such talented individuals generates unforgettable memories, and I greatly respect John for his intelligence and character.

Considering your character’s role in the Dan and Julianne storyline, do you believe they have romantic feelings for each other?

Gilles Marini: Absolutely, they are destined for one another, albeit their interactions are heavily laced with cynicism. Their unique banter reflects a depth of love despite their attempts to keep distance between them. Observing the subtleties in their expressions shows a profound connection, suggesting that beneath the surface, there’s undeniable affection.

Julianne is unaware that Dan knows about her fake relationship with Rodrigo. If she were to attempt to bring Rodrigo back to court, what humorous scenarios could arise?

Gilles Marini: I envision scenarios where Julianne could leverage Rodrigo in a way that helps her case while undermining Dan. With Rodrigo’s potential, we can explore a myriad of paths that may unfold in unexpected ways. There’s much more to discover about Rodrigo’s capability that hasn’t been portrayed yet, which could provide an amusing twist to the narrative.
