Gilbert Arenas showers massive praise on “big game” JuJu Watkins with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant comparison
JuJu Watkins has been bestowed with the highest praise from Gilbert Arenas, who compared her big-game mentality to that of esteemed NBA legends.
Watkins possesses all the qualities of a potential Trojan legend. As a freshman, she is undeniably one of the most captivating players in women’s college basketball and has already caught the attention of not only the women’s basketball world, but also the NBA and beyond with her incredible talent.
During a recent episode of the Nightcap podcast, Gilbert Arenas joined host Shannon Sharpe as a guest. Arenas had high praise for LA native Watkins, stating that her performance in crucial moments showcased a clutch gene reminiscent of basketball legends Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. As a former guard for the Warriors, Arenas recognized the presence of this special trait in her game.
“If you watch her work out, you wouldn’t know she was a girl. She has no mannerisms,”Arenas said.
“She works out with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker and she can mimic all of them. She got so much power, so much swag. I’ve seen this girl do some amazing things during big games, she has the Kobe and Jordan Gene.”
“There are only few people that I’ve seen with it meaning Jimmy Butler. When it’s a big game and there’s big moments, they never fail you. She’s one of those, Caitlin Clark too,” he added.
The response from Shannon was as follows:
“Yeah, her games kind of reminds me of Maya Moore.” He added, “She can get her own shot. They don’t need you give me the ball and I can’t get to them my spot – be at the mid-range lane and get all the way to the rim. It’s joy watching them.”
JuJu Watkins has played a crucial role in leading the top-seeded USC women’s basketball team to their first appearance in the NCAA Elite 8 since 1994.
Gilbert Arenas predicts the outcome of JuJu Watkins & Caitlin Clark’s showdown against Devin Booker
Receiving a prediction for stardom from a former NBA star is a clear indication that the basketball community will be closely monitoring your progress. Despite some opinions that Watkins has not yet reached her full potential, her exceptional performance during her first year goes against common belief.
Despite her young age, she has undoubtedly made a major impact on the college basketball scene. In fact, she currently holds the title of second-highest scorer in the nation, only behind Iowa’s Caitlin Clark. Excited by the possibility of a future showdown, Gilbert confidently predicted a potential matchup between herself and Clark in the crucial stages of the NCAA Tournament.
“Caitlin is great but she’s not JuJu,”Gilber said in the Nightcap podcast.
“If you go back and look Caitlin as a freshman what JuJu does is they are not even on the same planet. If they match up in the tournament, 1,000% JuJu gonna pick her up full court… She’s built like [Devin] Booker. She’s super athletic, she will pick her [Caitlin] up full court that they are going to set a whole bunch of screens to JuJu off her,” he concluded.
JuJu’s impact on USC history is undeniable. Despite her raw statistics indicating potential for improvement, her first year as a freshman has been exceptional. Her performance on the court has even sparked discussions of her potentially being named NPOY, alongside notable players like Caitlin Clark.
Nevertheless, it is yet to be determined how the two will perform if they were to compete against each other directly. A first-year player versus a well-known superstar in the women’s sport? Sounds like something out of a movie, doesn’t it? We are eagerly anticipating the outcome!
