Star-Studded Opening of Gigi Hadid’s Boutique in Seoul
On Monday, November 4, 2024, the illustrious members of NewJeans attended the launch of Gigi Hadid’s knitwear brand, Guest In Residence, at a pop-up store located in Seoul. The event drew a host of K-pop icons, including 2NE1’s CL, Jay Park, THE BOYZ’s Younghoon, and Squid Game actress Jung Ho-yeon, who also participated in a private dinner celebrating the brand’s grand opening.
An Evening of Elegance
The lavish dinner unfolded within a traditional Korean residence, known as a hanok, creating a serene backdrop for the gathering. Gigi Hadid, who launched Guest In Residence in 2022, made a striking appearance in a new brown cashmere coat, marking the occasion with style.
NewJeans Steals the Spotlight
Only three members of NewJeans—Hanni, Danielle, and Minji—were present at the event. However, their attendance sparked significant excitement among fans, who delighted in seeing their idols sharing moments and capturing pictures with the lauded Victoria’s Secret supermodel.
Fan Reactions on Social Media
The event was a hot topic online as both CL and Jay Park shared highlights of the evening on their Instagram stories. Fans surged onto social media channels, expressing their enthusiasm at the friendships forming between the rising K-pop stars and Hadid.
“They have so many connections in the fashion industry, it’s kinda insane seeing Gigi being like besties with the girls,”one user remarked on X.
A Dream Team of Fashion and Music Icons
Fans dubbed the gathering an “ensemble of the biggest stars in the idol world,”thrilled to witness interactions among Jung Ho-yeon, CL, NewJeans, and Younghoon from THE BOYZ. Many jested that CL had “adopted” NewJeans, given their frequent appearances together.
“Literally the ensemble of the biggest stars in the idol, k-hip-hop, acting, and modeling industries in one frame,”expressed a fan.
“Now that the likes are private, we can all agree that NewJeans are the group that is loved by everyone in the industry,”another fan added.
NewJeans’ Internal Struggles with HYBE Corporation
In the context of ongoing tensions within the K-pop sector, HYBE Corporation, the parent company of ADOR, recently dismissed CEO Min Hee-jin on August 27, 2024, replacing her with former Chief Human Resources Officer Kim Joo-young.
Shortly thereafter, on September 11, NewJeans held an unauthorized livestream to voice their discontent with Min’s dismissal—a video that has now been removed. The group’s demand for her reinstatement was met with resistance from the board, culminating in an emergency shareholders’ meeting on September 25 where their request was firmly denied.
Legal Battles and Company Support
Despite this setback, Min Hee-jin was reinstated as an in-house director at ADOR, maintaining supervision over NewJeans’ projects until the end of their contract term. On October 29, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed her injunction request, affirming that HYBE had not violated any contractual agreements.
In a recent development, HYBE’s CEO Lee Jae-sang addressed the media on November 5, 2024, affirming the company’s commitment to supporting NewJeans in their projects and releases. He highlighted their impressive achievement as a million-selling girl group, noting their sustained popularity amid the ongoing controversies.
