K-pop Sensation (G)I-DLE Rebrands as I-dle on Their 7th Anniversary

The popular K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE has embraced a new identity by officially rebranding themselves as “I-dle”in celebration of their seventh debut anniversary.

This significant change was announced by Cube Entertainment, the group’s management agency, on Friday, coinciding with their debut anniversary on May 2. The group will now perform under the simplified name I-dle.

A New Direction in Identity

The updated branding drops the “(G)”and the Korean term “yeoja, ”which translates to “female.”This shift highlights the group’s intent to transcend traditional gender labels, signaling a commitment to a wider, more inclusive identity.

Cube Entertainment elaborated on this rebranding by stating,

“By removing the ‘여자’ and ‘G’ and parentheses, the group will show more limitless music and concepts.”

Visual Branding Revamp

In addition to the new name, I-dle introduced a fresh logo and symbol. The logo now features the lowercase letters “i d l e”presented in a contemporary structural design. The new emblem comprises five lowercase “i”s arranged in a star pattern, symbolizing the unity and individuality of the five group members.

Fan Engagement and Upcoming Releases

The rebranding initiative first caught the attention of fans on May 1, as the group updated their social media handles from @G_I_DLE to @official_i_dle.

To celebrate this milestone, I-dle has announced the release of two mini albums in May. The first is a special mini album launching on May 2, closely followed by their eighth mini album scheduled for release on May 19. Additionally, they have premiered a teaser video titled “for (G), ”showcasing a remix of their debut hit “Latata.”

Celebrated Hits and Future Endeavors

Since their debut, I-dle has captivated audiences with a series of chart-topping tracks, including “Latata, ””Tomboy, ””Nxde, ”and “Queencard.”

Contract Renewals and Future of the Group

All five members—Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua—have reaffirmed their commitment to Cube Entertainment by renewing their contracts. This announcement was made during the prestigious 2024 Melon Music Awards, where leader Soyeon addressed speculation regarding disbandment, reassuring fans that each member is dedicated to continuing their journey together.
