Ghost of Yotei: All Current Insights on the Ghost of Tsushima Sequel
Ghost of Yotei is one of the most highly-anticipated sequels set for release in 2025. This follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima promises to be an exhilarating game featuring a fresh storyline and a new protagonist. While it will retain the core premise of its predecessor, which centers around a warrior navigating the trials of feudal Japan, Sucker Punch has indicated that exciting innovations are on the horizon.
This information came to light during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play, where it was announced alongside key reveals like the Lunar Remaster and the release date for Dynasty Warriors Origin. Ghost of Yotei presents fans with thrilling potential: a continuation of the narrative that Sucker Punch first introduced in 2020.
What We Know So Far About Ghost of Yotei
Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, is set 300 years after the original game, in the year 1603. This time jump allows Sucker Punch to explore a new storyline and introduce a fresh protagonist who will take on the mantle of the Ghost.
The game’s setting is confirmed to be in Yotei, which is associated with Mount Yotei, previously known as the Ezo region (now Hokkaido).
Set during the twilight years of the Sengoku Jidai era—commonly referred to as the Warring States period—the story occurs just before its conclusion. Interestingly, the Yotei region remains outside Japan’s control at this time.
Additionally, Sucker Punch is committed to introducing new mechanics, weapons, and gameplay enhancements. Being the studio’s first game tailored specifically for PlayStation 5, players can expect a more realistic look and feel compared to its predecessor.
Although many details about the Ghost of Tsushima sequel remain under wraps, fans are aware that the new Ghost will be voiced by Erika Ishii, who is known for her work on Dropout.TV and her role as Valkyrie in Apex Legends, among various other performances.
The trailer revealed that while many seek to vanish in Yotei, the Ghost has a singular purpose: to hunt. Consequently, every Ronin is on her trail.
The trailer also draws several parallels to classic cowboy films, a connection that makes sense given the inspiration Samurai films provided for the popular spaghetti Westerns. It’s a fascinating circle of influence with Ghost of Yotei.
Although the title is expected to launch in 2025, details remain scarce. Nonetheless, the anticipation surrounding the game is palpable, especially for those who were devoted fans of the original Ghost of Tsushima.
