Geraldine Viswanathan & Meredith Hagner Discuss the Surprising Cameo in You’re Cordially Invited

In the upcoming comedy You’re Cordially Invited, Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner find themselves in a humorous rivalry as two brides, Jenni and Neve. The chaos ensues when both mishap-prone characters accidentally double-book their wedding venues, igniting a comical feud between their families—featuring Will Ferrell as Jim and Reese Witherspoon as Margot—over whose ceremony takes precedence.

This film marks a significant milestone for Viswanathan, who is poised to make her entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer in Thunderbolts. Meanwhile, Hagner continues her comedic momentum, having appeared in popular films such as the Vacation Friends series and the critically-acclaimed Joy Ride.

To commemorate the streaming debut of You’re Cordially Invited on Prime Video, ScreenRant had the pleasure of chatting with both actresses. They shared amusing anecdotes from the set, discussed the inspiration behind one of the film’s unexpected cameos, and hinted at what could lie ahead for Viswanathan in the MCU.

A Glimpse into the Laughter: Viswanathan & Hagner’s On-Set Experiences

“That was all improvised… and that just absolutely destroyed me on that day…”

ScreenRant: Your movie screening had me in stitches. Filming a comedy must be challenging without breaking character, but surely there were moments of uncontrollable laughter on set. What made you laugh the hardest while filming?

Meredith Hagner: There were so many instances! Just watching Will be himself was a riot. I can’t pinpoint a single moment, but it was always a blast.

Geraldine Viswanathan: I distinctly remember a scene where Will was engaged in a playful exchange with one of the nephews. They kept barking at each other, and it escalated hilariously. I was completely doubled over with laughter, and I’m thrilled it made the cut!

Meredith Hagner: And let’s not forget the hilarious expressions from Jack McBrayer. When he had cake on his face, the camera completely captured the moment!

How Wyatt Russell’s Surprising Cameo Came to Be

“And I was like, ‘Mr. Hollywood needs to have the part [specified]…’”

ScreenRant: One of the most delightful surprises in the film was the cameo by your husband, Wyatt Russell. How did that opportunity come about?

Meredith Hagner: It’s simple; we typically alternate projects. I had this role, and he was managing the kids at home. I nudged him about this cameo, and he asked about the character. I jokingly responded, ‘Mr. Hollywood needs to have the part specified!’ I insisted it was for my movie—albeit shared with Reese and Will—and convinced him to take the part, which required him to sport mutton chops for a fleeting moment. His commitment to the craft was impressive, considering he was prepping to work with Steven Spielberg soon after!

ScreenRant: It’s fun to see Wyatt in that musical reprise at the end! Without giving too much away, Geraldine, your musical number with Will is quite memorable. Do you consider yourself a natural performer?

Geraldine Viswanathan: I’m totally oblivious to what you mean! I’m so unassuming and relaxed right now. Yes, I do sing in You’re Cordially Invited, but certainly, I’m no songbird!

ScreenRant: Quite the evasive answer there, Geraldine!

Geraldine Viswanathan: No, trust me, I genuinely feel normal! You’re entirely perplexed, Meredith.

Meredith Hagner: I am confused!

Geraldine Viswanathan: I’ll explain everything later.
