HoYoverse has officially revealed an exciting quality-of-life update for Genshin Impact, set to launch with Version 5.5. This new enhancement will bring significant improvements to the Artifact mechanics, marking a notable advancement since the crafting system was introduced in Version 5.0. Although Version 5.5 is still a few months away, players are currently experiencing Version 5.3 and have yet to explore the features of Version 5.4, which promises to introduce fans to the character Yumemizuki Mizuki.
Guaranteed Enhancements for Crafted Artifact Sub-Stats
Enhanced Usability of Crafted Sub-Stats

According to an official announcement on HoYoLAB, players can anticipate a series of enhancements in Version 5.4, including a long-awaited weapon filter and improvements to in-game character guides, along with minor adjustments to the Serenitea Pot. However, the most noteworthy change will come with Version 5.5, where crafted Artifacts will guarantee at least two enhancements to the selected sub-stats as players enhance them up to level 20.
This innovative enhancement system will allocate these two upgrades randomly among the chosen sub-stats, leading to a more predictable enhancement process compared to the previous randomization that often left players frustrated.
Addressing the Randomness Issue in Artifact Enhancements
Consequences of Randomized Sub-Stats

With the planned changes in Version 5.5, HoYoverse is set to tackle one of Genshin Impact‘s longstanding issues: the randomness of sub-stat development in Artifacts. Since the game’s inception, players have faced the challenge of farming for Artifacts with optimal main stats, only to be met with disappointing sub-stat enhancements. The current system is notoriously punishing—players can invest days into farming and still fail to secure the perfect Artifact or optimal sub-stats.
For instance, a player might finally obtain a Pyro DMG goblet meant for their character Mavuika but could end up with unwanted enhancements like DEF or Energy Recharge instead. This flaw not only detracts from player satisfaction but highlights a persistent annoyance in the game’s mechanics. In contrast, HoYoverse’s other title, Honkai: Star Rail, has successfully integrated a solution that could be beneficial for Genshin as well. Implementing a Variable Dice system, similar to what is in Honkai, could allow players to reroll sub-stat enhancements, improving customization and character optimization.
The new guarantee that crafted sub-stats will receive at least two enhancements is a step forward in ameliorating the arduous grinding process of obtaining quality Artifacts. While it may not completely resolve the frustration surrounding Artifact farming, it is a significant improvement and promises to enhance the overall player experience in Genshin Impact. With continued commitment to quality-of-life updates, it is hopeful that further enhancements will evolve the game into a more rewarding experience for all players.
