Gemini’s Enhanced Memory Feature for Tailored AI Interactions

Introducing Google Gemini’s Enhanced Memory Feature

Google’s Gemini is taking a giant leap forward in personalization with the introduction of its innovative memory feature. This new functionality allows users to share personal details about their lifestyle and preferences, enabling Gemini to deliver more customized and relevant responses in future interactions. For instance, if you indicate that you follow a vegetarian diet, Gemini will remember this preference and tailor its meal recommendations accordingly, ensuring they align with your dietary choices.

Starting today, you can request Gemini Advanced to retain your interests and preferences, enhancing your overall experience. Users can effortlessly view, modify, or delete any shared information and monitor its usage.

Utilizing the ‘Saved Info’ Page

The newly introduced ‘Saved Info’ page allows users to input new details or request Gemini to remember specific information during conversations. Once information is stored, it can be easily accessed, modified, or removed via the ‘Saved Info’ section. Google has provided several illustrative examples of what users might want Gemini to remember:

  • Utilize straightforward language and refrain from using technical jargon.
  • I am a vegetarian; please do not suggest meat-based recipes.
  • After each response, include a Spanish translation.
  • When planning trips, provide daily cost estimates.
  • I only code in JavaScript.
  • I prefer brief and concise replies.

Current Limitations and Competition

At present, this memory feature is exclusively available in English and is being rolled out only to users of Gemini Advanced. It’s noteworthy that OpenAI’s ChatGPT has already set a precedent with a similar memory feature, which was initially launched in February and later expanded in September. ChatGPT’s Memory option is accessible to various user tiers, including Free, Plus, Team, and Enterprise plans. Users can instruct ChatGPT explicitly to remember or forget information, and also have the option to deactivate the memory functionality entirely.
