Gemini Enables Calling and Texting While Phone is Locked Soon

Recently, we shared that Gemini is on the verge of introducing multi-aspect ratio image generation capabilities. As it stands, users can only create square images with Gemini. However, this limitation is set to change soon, enabling the AI to support various popular aspect ratios, including 16:9, 4:3, 9:16, and 3:4.

Additionally, there’s an exciting new feature in the works for Gemini that will allow it to manage phone calls and text messages even when the device is locked. Users will be able to activate either Google or the Gemini assistant by saying “Hey, Google,”enabling them to initiate calls or send messages. Currently, calls and messages can only be conducted by Google Assistant while the phone is locked, but this might soon be extended to Gemini AI as well.

This newly discovered feature was found in the beta version of the Google app (15.42.30.28.arm64). It reveals that Gemini will incorporate new functionalities for the lock screen, including a toggle switch that allows users to permit Gemini to make calls or send messages while the device is locked. When this feature is activated, Google will provide a notification stating that “Gemini will still require you to unlock when a reply includes personal information, such as your Gmail messages, from your apps.”

Moreover, the latest update also features a revamped user interface. The Gemini overlay now boasts a streamlined design, with an expanded vertical text input box that shows all your text clearly. The interface has been improved to categorize various Gemini extensions into distinct groups. Screenshots reveal categories such as Communication, Device Control, Travel, Media, and Productivity, each with their corresponding extensions listed under them.

At this point, the timeline for when these new features will make their way into the stable release of the Gemini app remains uncertain. Furthermore, there’s no assurance that experimental features or interface modifications will be officially launched.
