In a landmark move, Garmin has launched the Fenix 8 Pro series, marking it as the first smartwatch equipped with the company’s inReach satellite technology and cellular LTE capabilities. This enables users to send and receive text messages via satellite, check in with location updates, and issue SOS alerts in areas where cellular coverage is lacking. Additionally, when in LTE coverage, users can access functions like weather updates, short voice messaging, and real-time tracking directly from their wrist.

Garmin’s advancements in satellite connectivity give it a competitive edge, despite the absence of groundbreaking hardware changes. The Fenix 8 Pro is equipped with either an AMOLED or MicroLED display, boasting an impressive peak brightness of 4, 500 nits—making it the brightest on the market. Additionally, the rugged design includes dive-rated durability and leakproof metal buttons, crafted to endure extreme conditions.

When it comes to battery performance, the smartwatch excels with up to 27 days of battery life for the AMOLED version and 10 days for the MicroLED variant. However, its premium features come with a steep price, starting at $1, 199.99 for the AMOLED model and $1, 999.99 for the MicroLED version. Users interested in the satellite and LTE functionalities will need a subscription, priced at $7.99 per month, although a 30-day free trial is available for new users. The Fenix 8 Pro is scheduled to launch on September 8, 2025.
