Disney+ Launches K-Drama “Gangnam B-Side”
Disney+ has unveiled the first two episodes of Gangnam B-Side, a thrilling K-drama featuring Ji Chang-wook, BIBI, Jo Woo-jin, and Ha Yoon-kyung. The series kicks off with an intense sequence in the opening 10 minutes of episode 1, where Detective Dong-woo (played by Jo Woo-jin) orchestrates a raid on a nightclub notorious for narcotic activities.
An Intense Raid and a Shocking Twist
During the raid, conflicts arise as another officer attempts to halt Dong-woo’s actions. However, Dong-woo presses on, breaking into a VIP room to confront a suspect donning a gas mask attempting to flee with a stash of drugs. In a stunning twist, he removes the mask, revealing it to be his own colleague, Jang-ho (Hyung Bong-sik).
Following this explosive revelation, Dong-woo successfully dismantles the drug smuggling operation, implicating several officers from the Major Crimes unit in the scandal. The episode then shifts three years ahead, showcasing Dong-woo’s transfer to a tranquil countryside police station.
Dark Turns in Episode 2
As episode 2 commences, we meet Gil-ho (Ji Chang-wook), who is seen leaving the corpse of a girl named Jung-hwa at a subway station. This chilling scene sets the stage for a series of violent confrontations. The second episode culminates in a chaotic scene where Gil-ho finds himself fighting off gangsters while being wrongfully pursued by the corrupted crime unit, accused of Jung-hwa’s murder.
Episode 1: A Frightening Dive into Crime
The narrative intensifies in episode 1 when Jang-ho, cornered by Dong-woo, admits that nearly every member of the Major Crimes unit is complicit in drug trafficking. Following this reveal, multiple arrests follow. In a harrowing subplot, three years later, Jae-hee (BIBI), also known as Jenny, narrowly escapes from pursuing gangsters, leaving her friend Jung-hwa in a perilous situation.
Gil-ho, a complex character driven by his surroundings, appears in a separate nightclub wielding a baseball bat. After rescuing a drugged girl and confronting a dealer, he learns of Jae-hee’s predicament. The situation escalates when he discovers Jung-hwa has been taken to a hotel room filled with chaos, ultimately finding her lifeless body in a jacuzzi.
Episode 2: The Quest for Justice
In episode 2, the investigation unfolds as a cleaning crew arrives at the hotel room where Jung-hwa was murdered, only to find her remains missing. Meanwhile, Gil-ho’s desperate actions lead him to leave Jung-hwa’s body at a subway station bench, where the corrupt crime unit aims to frame him for the crime.
As the plot thickens, Dong-woo is called back to Gangnam to unearth the truth behind the narcotics ring and Jung-hwa’s murder. His unexpected encounter with CCTV footage of Gil-ho sets off a chain of events, compelling him to enlist the help of Jang-ho, who is now entangled in minor criminal activities since his arrest.
A Climactic Confrontation
Dong-woo’s return to Gangnam becomes tense as he seeks clues about the murders and colludes with Jang-ho. Amidst a series of confrontational encounters with Joon-seo—the K-pop idol believed to be connected to the murders—Gil-ho is drawn into a deadly showdown. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Gil-ho jumping into a river, evading bullets from both corrupt officers and goons, leaving his fate uncertain.

The story’s gripping narrative pauses here, leading viewers to anticipate episodes 3 and 4, set to premiere on November 13, 2024, exclusively on Disney+. The series promises to deliver more suspense, drama, and thrilling confrontations as mysteries unravel.
