Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Trailer Unveiled at The Game Awards 2024
At The Game Awards 2024, Netmarble, a prominent Chinese publisher, showcased a new trailer for their upcoming title, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. For viewers tuned in on smaller screens or at FullHD resolution, the trailer may have appeared as an exciting rendition of the beloved Game of Thrones universe, featuring an action-adventure RPG where players can engage with iconic characters, complete with well-crafted likenesses and performances from the original HBO cast.
However, observers watching in 4K resolution on larger displays likely noted a discernible drop in visual quality compared to other recently announced titles, such as CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher IV. In fact, many might argue that the graphics seem significantly outdated, particularly in terms of character animations like hair and clothing details.
Understanding the Mobile Focus of Kingsroad
The primary reason for this discrepancy lies in the game’s platform choice: Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is designed exclusively for Android and iOS devices. Although mobile gaming technology has advanced, the gap between mobile and triple-A PC/console titles remains considerable. While a PC version could be anticipated in the future, it would not replicate the experience of a game designed for high-performance platforms from the start.
Gameplay Features and Character Customization
In Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, players will take on the role of a new protagonist who unexpectedly becomes the heir to House Tyre, a lesser-known noble family from the North. Players can expect an engaging character customization system, allowing them to alter both appearance and class. Three distinct classes are available: Sellsword, Knight, and Assassin.
Netmarble’s Vision for Westeros
In a recent statement, Netmarble’s CEO, Young-sig Kwon, expressed his enthusiasm for the project:
We believe Game of Thrones is a world rich with untold stories and adventures, and we’re pleased to bring Westeros to life in an exciting new way for gamers.
Release Plans and Additional Information
Netmarble plans to launch Game of Thrones: Kingsroad sometime in 2025, targeting regions including Europe, America, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania, while the Asian rollout details are pending. Interested players can sign up on the official website for updates on the game’s progress.
