Dreamworks Animation is diving into the spooky season with the launch of Curses Season 2 on Apple TV+, a series that has been characterized as “Indiana Jones in reverse.”The storyline revolves around a family who stumbles upon cursed artifacts in a forbidden section of their home, prompting them to undertake a mission to return these items to their rightful owners.
This captivating Apple TV+ original is filled with thrilling journeys and bold adventures. However, due to the ominous nature of the artifacts, the series deftly intertwines elements of horror. The Vanderhouven family embarks on globe-trotting escapades, ranging from India to Australia, as they confront spine-chilling moments while returning historic items plagued by curses.
Even after a strong debut season, Nevaeh feels that Curses has truly raised the bar in its sophomore installment.
“You get to know them a little bit better. You get to know the dynamics. So I think that Season 2 is definitely a little more cohesive. It’s definitely a lot bigger with the adventures that the family goes on and the stories that we tell.”
Expanding the Curses Universe on Apple TV+
The second season not only showcases the Vanderhouven family’s adventurous journey to more diverse and exotic destinations, but it also introduces a variety of new characters who discover the family’s hidden secrets.
Nevaeh elaborated:
“I feel like it all lends to the writers, right? Because I can only learn as much as they tell me. But I think that as far as things from Season 1 that we explore more of in Season 2 is more of her relationship with her best friend. Because we’re expanding the world, right?”
Additionally, Nevaeh reflected on the character of Pandora Vanderhouven and how her personality contributes to the unfolding narrative in the series.
“We’re diving deeper into who these characters are as people. And as far as Pandora is concerned, she has a very, very big heart. And sometimes that can get in the way in a few places. It can make things a little more difficult than they needed to be.”
When asked if she has ever enjoyed Stephen King novels or horror films, she candidly admitted:
“I’m a chicken. I get scared very, very easily. Watching horror animation, horror films, anything related to it, I just don’t stomach it well, you know?”
The animated series star also confessed that her friends often tease her about her aversion to horror. She noted that being part of a horror production is “very different”from watching a scary film, primarily because she is aware of the plot.
“I know where the jump scares are. I’ve got a leg up on everybody in the theater and everybody at home watching.”
