Future OnePlus Phones Will Feature Gemini as Default Assistant Over Google Assistant

Recent updates from OnePlus reveal that their upcoming flagship smartphone series will feature Gemini as the preinstalled default assistant, taking over from Google Assistant. This decision appears to be intentional; back in April, OnePlus inadvertently indicated that “Gemini 1.0 Ultra”would be integrated into their devices later this year.

If the trajectory remains steady, OnePlus will not be the pioneer in opting for Gemini AI over Google Assistant as its primary assistant. Other brands such as Motorola and even Google are also shifting away from Google Assistant. In fact, Google has stated that the Pixel 9 and subsequent models will utilize Gemini AI as their default assistant. Furthermore, Pixel smartphones with a minimum of 2GB RAM will have the ability to download the standalone Gemini app available on the Play Store.

It’s important to note that Google Assistant will still be accessible on OnePlus devices, but it will not serve as the default assistant. To utilize Google Assistant instead of Gemini, users will need to launch the Gemini app and manually switch back to Assistant. For existing OnePlus handsets, which are set to receive the OxygenOS 15 update, Google Assistant will remain available unless Gemini is specifically chosen for installation.

As reported by BusinessToday, “The next series of OnePlus flagship smartphones will come with Google Gemini as the preinstalled default assistant. Users with other OnePlus models can download the separate Google Gemini app, but Google Assistant will continue as the default option.”

OnePlus is set to introduce a device that will allow users to experience the Gemini Assistant by default. The OnePlus 13 is expected to be the first device from the company to replace Google Assistant with Gemini. A launch event is scheduled for October 31 in China, with a global release projected in the subsequent months. An unboxing video showcasing the OnePlus 13 has recently emerged, highlighting its features and software.
