Bill Roper’s Lunacy Games Secures Funding for Innsmouth Mysteries

Bill Roper, a renowned figure in the gaming industry with deep roots at Blizzard Entertainment, is making waves again. Known for his pivotal roles in the creation of iconic franchises such as Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo, Roper has announced that his studio, Lunacy Games, has successfully secured funding for their new project, Innsmouth Mysteries.

From Hellgate to Innsmouth

Initially, Lunacy Games was slated to develop Hellgate: Redemption, a sequel to the beloved Hellgate: London, as well as a game titled Skinwalkers, blending Weird West mythology with Cthulhu lore where players navigate as cowboys. Despite their ambitions, Roper revealed in an interview with GamesBeat that securing funding for these titles was a significant hurdle, with estimated costs reaching up to $20 million.

Funding Announcement for Innsmouth Mysteries

Fortunately, Lunacy Games found a partner in Big Bang Accelerator, which has provided $500, 000 in funding for Innsmouth Mysteries. This innovative cooperative horror extraction role-playing game draws inspiration from the eerie works of H. P.Lovecraft. Set in a secretive 1920s coastal town, players assume the roles of supernatural investigators tasked with uncovering dark secrets, collecting arcane artifacts, and preventing the resurgence of an ancient evil—all before the ominous midnight hour.

A Vision for Engagement and Quality

Ying Sha, co-founder of Big Bang Accelerator, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:

“Lunacy Games has a clear and compelling vision for a Co-op Horror Extraction RPG, and it’s backed by a team of veterans whose track record speaks for itself. We are proud to support studios like theirs that are pushing the boundaries of games. We see Innsmouth Mysteries as a project that perfectly aligns with our mission to support talented teams to bring high-quality, deeply engaging experiences to players.”

Exploring the Gaming Landscape

Roper envisions a unique niche within the gaming industry that bridges the gap between AAA titles and indie projects. He believes this space is currently overlooked, offering an opportunity for thrilling gameplay merged with rich narratives and immersive experiences. The goal for Lunacy Games is to capture that spirit through Innsmouth Mysteries.

Current Status and Future Outlook

With a modest team of just 13 employees, including Roper himself contributing to audio production, the studio is gearing up to craft this engaging horror RPG. While a release window has not yet been established, fans and industry watchers alike are eager to see how this project unfolds. We will continue to monitor its progress and share updates as they become available.
