Despite the immense success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, fans of this animated trilogy may be facing a lengthy wait for the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. While the storytelling has captivated audiences, recent updates suggest that the release of the third film could still be quite distant, leading to frustration among dedicated fans.
The inaugural film of this acclaimed Sony Pictures series debuted in 2018, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Following a five-year gap, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hit theaters in 2023, leaving viewers hanging with a nail-biting cliffhanger. Initially, there were hopes for a swift continuation of the story; however, numerous delays have cast doubt on those timelines. Although the latest statements from key cast members have not officially classified the situation as a delay, indications suggest that Beyond the Spider-Verse remains in the early stages of development.
Voice Actor’s Update on Production Status

In a recent interview with Decider, Jharrel Jerome, who lends his voice to the alternate version of Miles Morales, shared insights while promoting his new live-action movie, Unstoppable. Toward the end of the discussion, when questioned about his involvement in recording voice lines for the upcoming film, Jerome candidly replied, “No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things.”
This news echoes previous statements made by Jerome earlier this winter, where he similarly noted that his work on the third installment had yet to begin. As of now, it appears that production for Beyond the Spider-Verse is stalled, leaving fans with little clarity on when they might see the film come to fruition.
This update, while not surprising, raises concerns about potential delays. If the timeline holds true, fans could face a similar wait for the third film as they did for the sequel. This situation is particularly disheartening, considering the unexpected nature of the franchise’s growth; initial plans for the first film did not guarantee a series continuation, but Across the Spider-Verse was crafted with the knowledge of its narrative becoming part of a larger tale.
Should current circumstances persist, the earliest we might expect Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in theaters would be late 2026. However, it is more plausible that the release could be pushed to 2027, contingent upon the commencement of production and voice recording in the upcoming months. If the timeline stretches to 2028, it will create an equal gap between the first and second films and the subsequent sequel—something that was likely not part of the original plan.
