Frostpunk 2 Set to Release on Consoles This September
Last year, 11 bit studios brought players back into the chilling realm of Frostpunk with its highly anticipated sequel. Following a successful launch on PC, the studio is gearing up to introduce Frostpunk 2 to console gamers, just in time for its one-year anniversary. The console version promises a revamped interface tailored specifically for a better controller experience.
Adapting to New Gameplay Mechanics
The transition from PC to console isn’t merely a copy-and-paste operation. As noted by the studio, the substantial gameplay differences in the sequel demanded a more intensive adaptation process than with the original game. This evolution reflects a commitment to enhancing user experience on all platforms.
Innovative Control Features
One of the notable features includes utilizing the bumpers on controllers to efficiently cycle through districts of the same type within Frostpunk 2. Additionally, players can expect a user-friendly radial menu that dynamically highlights actions related to selected resource piles, significantly improving gameplay interaction.
“Initially, we tried to carry over as many interface solutions as possible, ”explains Igor Skibinski, the production coordinator for the Frostpunk 2 team.“But the two games differ so much in terms of gameplay that we had to adapt and rework those systems over time. Still, our main focus was to make interaction with the game feel seamless – so players never have to think about how to play while they’re playing.”
Simultaneous Launch and Game Pass Availability
For PC players, the same innovative gamepad control layout will be integrated in an update following the console launch. Frostpunk 2 is set to make its debut on both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on September 18. Gamers on Xbox Game Pass will be delighted to learn that the game will be available from day one with their subscription, mirroring the PC Game Pass release strategy.
Exclusive Physical Editions Available
In addition to the digital launch, 11 bit studios has announced two exclusive physical editions for Frostpunk 2: the Icebreaker Edition and the Whiteout Edition. These special bundles come complete with a pop-up diorama, the digital novella Warm Flesh, a behind-the-scenes digital artbook, and various other exciting merchandise, appealing to collectors and fans alike.
