fromis_9 Faces Unexpected Turn Amid Agency Transition
After departing from Pledis Entertainment, fromis_9 hinted at an exciting new chapter under a different label. However, their plans took an unforeseen detour when three members opted to pursue separate paths, resulting in a partial transfer to a new agency.
New Contract Developments
On January 17, reports emerged stating that fromis_9 was in the process of signing an exclusive agreement with Big Planet Made Entertainment (BPM), which houses notable acts such as SHINee’s Taemin and VIVIZ. Yet, the anticipated transition has not fully materialized, as only five of the eight members have chosen to join BPM, leaving three seeking opportunities with different entertainment companies.
Implications for the Group
Korean media outlet Star Today remarked on the implications of these developments, noting, “This makes it virtually impossible for fromis_9 to continue promoting as a full group.”This statement reflects the challenges the group may face moving forward, especially if the members are divided among different agencies.
In response to the circulating news, BPM acted quickly, issuing a formal rebuttal on the same day. They stated, “We would like to inform you that the article reported this morning that five members of the group fromis_9 are transferring to our company is groundless,”clarifying the situation and reducing speculation about the contract status.
Looking Back at fromis_9’s Journey
Fromis_9 made their debut under Off the Record, a talent agency within the CJ ENM structure, before transitioning to Pledis, part of the HYBE Labels family, in 2021. Originally consisting of nine members, the group underwent a lineup change when Jang Gyuri departed in 2022 to concentrate on her acting career.
As uncertainties loom over the future of fromis_9 and its members, the fanbase remains eager for clarity and direction. The evolving landscape of K-pop agencies continues to capture attention, highlighting the dynamic nature of the industry.
