In the 2025 awards, a total of ten anime competed for the coveted Anime of the Year title. With tens of thousands of votes cast, the race was incredibly tight, concluding with less than 200 votes separating the top two contenders. Ultimately, Frieren emerged victorious with a total of 10, 280 votes, narrowly surpassing The Dangers in My Heart, which garnered 10, 098 votes.
According to Anime Trending’s official update,
During its inaugural week on the Fall 2023 charts, Frieren secured second place behind the second season of SPY x FAMILY. It maintained a top position from Weeks 2-6 before slipping to second again in Week 7. The series then descended to the third position in Weeks 8-10 and returned to second in the final week. Despite lacking a dominant lead, Frieren consistently ranked within the top three in a competitive season that showcased other popular names such as The Apothecary Diaries and SPY x FAMILY Season 2. Ultimately, Frieren was awarded the Fall 2023 Anime of the Season, solidifying its nomination for Anime of the Year at the current Anime Trending Awards.
Besides clinching Anime of the Year, Frieren demonstrated impressive versatility by winning five additional categories. The beloved fantasy series took home awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best in Scenery and Visuals, Action or Adventure Anime of the Year, and Fantasy Anime of the Year. Moreover, its supporting male character, Himmel, distinguished himself by winning the Supporting Boy of the Year title. Although the competition for Anime of the Year was fierce, Frieren’s comprehensive performance across the awards highlighted its exceptional quality.
