Fresh Gameplay Reveal for Phantom Blade Zero at S-PARTY 2025

Highlights from S-PARTY 2025: A Closer Look at Phantom Blade Zero

This week, S-GAME, a prominent Chinese game developer, hosted the S-PARTY 2025 event in Beijing, where fans had the opportunity to dive into the highly anticipated title, Phantom Blade Zero. Among the event’s exciting features was a 22-minute gameplay video released by IGN India, showcasing thrilling hidden boss fights, secret item discoveries, and an array of new weapons. You can view the gameplay footage below.

What Makes Phantom Blade Zero Unique?

As one of the most eagerly awaited entries in the action RPG/Soulslike genre, Phantom Blade Zero stands out for its unique approach. S-GAME has made it clear that while it draws inspiration from established genres, it should not be pigeonholed as a pure Soulslike game.

Soulframe, CEO of S-GAME, provided further insights last month on his vision for the game:

“Phantom Blade Zero is neither a Soulslike game nor a traditional action game. I’ve always admired the creators who defined these genres. I spent years immersed in their work, drawing inspiration and learning from their brilliance. But in the process of making this game, we stumbled onto a path we never expected: At first, we just wanted to make a game that brought ‘hack and slash’ into a multi-layered map. But once the animations and environmental assets came together, everything was ‘stitched together’ by a strong cultural aesthetic — creating something that felt deeply familiar to us, yet is rarely seen or experienced in games.”

Defining a New Genre: Wuxia Action Games

Though categorically it aligns with ARPGs, Soulframe hints at a potential new genre: Wuxia Action Games. Players can expect exhilarating gameplay experiences, including:

  • Soaring across rooftops while dodging arrows;
  • Engaging in combat atop a moving carriage;
  • Unraveling a world-shaking historical incident;
  • Experiencing cinematic moments that resonate with players.

Challenge Levels and More

In a departure from traditional Soulslike games, Phantom Blade Zero will include three difficulty settings: Wayfarer, Gamechanger, and Hellwalker (the latter is accessible only on a second playthrough through New Game+).This flexibility aims to cater to a diverse player base.

Looking Ahead: What to Expect at Gamescom

While the game currently lacks a release date, more information is likely to emerge at Gamescom, where S-GAME is set to make a significant impact. They will feature an impressive 500 m² booth in Hall 6 (B-050G), equipped with over 60 demo stations. This demo is touted as the most extensive yet, offering a full hour of gameplay that includes new boss battles, captivating level designs, engrossing narratives, and intense combat mechanics.

Our team will be covering Gamescom, and we are eager to explore this latest demo after our previous hands-on experience with Phantom Blade Zero.
