In Freedom Wars Remastered, players face a variety of formidable foes known as Abductors—massive robotic adversaries that introduce complexity into combat. With multiple weapon configurations, strategic adaptations become essential when confronting these enemies.
A key combat feature in this game is the ability to sever limbs from Abductors. By doing so, you not only diminish their combat capabilities but also acquire valuable resources. Below, we provide insights into the mechanics of severing and tips for successful execution.
Requirements for Severing in Freedom Wars Remastered
To initiate severing, players should equip any one-handed melee weapon. This functionality is unlocked when employing the Thorn to grapple onto the enemy. While one-handed melee weapons are particularly beneficial for severing, it’s important to note that other weapon types can also achieve similar outcomes.
A noteworthy purchase available at Zakka’s shop is the Flare Knife, priced at 3,000 Entitlement Points. This item allows players to sever limbs regardless of the primary weapon equipped. Simply ensure that the Flare Knife occupies an active slot, and the sever option will become accessible during combat.
Executing Limb Severing on Abductors
During an encounter, whether wielding a one-handed melee weapon or the Flare Knife, you first need to lock onto your target. Aim for the enemy’s limbs—when the lock-on icon turns red, it signals a targetable extremity. Utilize the Thorn to pull your character closer, and the sever button will become visible on the screen. This action allows you to begin sawing through the connection point between the limb and the body, inflicting damage as you hold down the sever button.
A visual semi-circle around the sever button indicates your progress towards successfully severing the limb, maintaining its status even if you’re knocked down and need to retry. Keep in mind that the Abductor may try to shake you off if it performs certain actions:
- Attacking with the targeted limb.
- Dashing against walls.
- Swiping at you with its other arm.
To prevent damage during the severing process, you must remain vigilant. Jumping off when necessary will help you evade injury—executing the basic jump command immediately halts the severing attempt, allowing you to escape unharmed.
Alternatively, you can inflict damage on a limb connection point without latching on by jumping and attacking, although this method is less reliable in affecting the sever gauge compared to the grappling technique. Once severed, limbs become unusable by the enemy and can be collected for additional resources, offering both strategic advantages and materials for future use.
