Exciting Update: Free DLSS Frame Generation Mod for Skyrim
Nearly two years ago, the well-known modder PureDark initiated the release of DLSS Frame Generation modifications for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While the standard DLSS mod has been made freely available, access to the Frame Generation version was previously exclusive to subscribers of his Patreon channel.
Community Shaders Team Steps Up
In a significant development, the Community Shaders team has now introduced a complimentary version of DLSS Frame Generation for Skyrim. This new mod utilizes the NVIDIA Streamline plugin, although users should be aware of an enduring DX11 bug affecting both DLSS Frame Generation and Reflex technology from NVIDIA. Although this issue means that latency may not be reduced as expected, it should not pose a problem for players whose frame rates exceed 60 frames per second. Nonetheless, the Community Shaders team remains optimistic about a resolution from NVIDIA in the future.
Caveats and Compatibility Issues
While the new mod is a welcome addition, there are some important caveats to consider:
- The mod is incompatible with Skyrim VR, which benefits from the superior space warp technology.
- It does not support the SSE ReShade Helper mod.
- Full compatibility with ReShade is not guaranteed; the mod’s effects will operate at half speed with depth effects not supported.
Basic effects, however, will function properly.
Installation Tips for Optimal Performance
To ensure seamless operation of the mod, players must set their frame rate limit using SSE Display Tweaks, which is a prerequisite, to half of their monitor’s refresh rate (rounded down).
Looking Ahead: The Future of Frame Generation in Skyrim
The Community Shaders team recognizes NVIDIA’s recent release of Smooth Motion as a potentially superior method for incorporating frame generation, particularly for the forthcoming GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards. However, this mod continues to provide substantial benefits for users with GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards.
Recent Enhancements and Upcoming Features
Additionally, the Community Shaders suite has received a noteworthy update, introducing several impactful graphics improvements for Skyrim, including:
- Support for Physically Based Rendering (PBR)
- Dynamic cloud shadows and skylighting
Looking ahead, more features are planned, including a fix that will unlock the number of draw calls. This improvement will enable a greater array of these graphical enhancements to be activated simultaneously without causing system crashes.
