Free Blades of Fire Copies at London Comic-Con for Steel Wedding Celebrations

505 Games Announces Unique Giveaway for Blades of Fire at London Comic-Con

In a surprising move, 505 Games, the publisher of the upcoming action-adventure title Blades of Fire, has revealed an intriguing promotional offer. At the London Comic-Con event, scheduled for Friday, May 23, attendees will have the chance to receive complimentary digital copies of the game. However, eligibility hinges on a rather unique celebration: to qualify, participants must be marking their Steel Wedding (11-year) anniversary on May 22. This means that only those who were married on May 22, 2014, and can provide a valid wedding certificate or a photo/copy of it will be able to snag a free copy.

Link to Game’s Launch Date

This peculiar stipulation ties directly to the official release date of Blades of Fire, which is set for May 22, 2025. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Priced at $59.99, the title currently offers a 10% pre-order discount, available on both PC and Xbox. For PlayStation users, the same discount applies, but only to those with an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Additionally, players with less robust PC hardware can still enjoy the game via cloud streaming on NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

Game Synopsis and Mechanics

Blades of Fire has had a brief yet impactful marketing campaign, having been revealed to the public only in late February. Developed by MercurySteam, the game immerses players in a fantastical universe where the malevolent queen Nerea has cursed the realm, turning all metal into stone, which poses a significant challenge to her overthrow. Inside this world, the main character, Aran de Lira, is bestowed with a special hammer unaffected by the curse, fueling his quest to defeat the tyrant.

A focal point of gameplay involves weapon crafting, with players able to choose from seven distinct weapon families and over 30 Forge Scrolls. The materials selected will impact weapon characteristics, leading to various combinations and allowing players to tailor their weapons for specific enemy encounters. With the game featuring more than 50 different enemy types, mastering each one’s unique strengths and weaknesses is crucial in battle. Furthermore, players have the ability to focus their attacks on specific body parts during combat.

Narrative Depth and Player Choice

MercurySteam has emphasized that Blades of Fire is narrative-driven. However, players can determine the depth of the story they wish to engage with. A key method to explore the narrative involves dialogues with Aran’s companion, Adso de Zelk, a young scholar equipped with a wealth of knowledge, likened to a human encyclopedia.

Initial Impressions from GDC 2025

Following a hands-on play session at GDC 2025, gaming journalist Kai Tatsumoto expressed enthusiasm for the title:

“MercurySteam’s strange AA blacksmithing adventure wasn’t on my radar before going to GDC after missing the initial preview event, but after going hands-on for an hour or so, I was pleasantly surprised with their latest unique IP. It’s just unique enough with the strong emphasis on forging and reforging that gives this action adventure a hook that I haven’t seen done before to this extent. The actual story itself could be a standard fantasy slop, and I’d still be on board for crafting a massive warhammer and just playing out my barbarian fantasies.”

Upcoming Trailer Release

Excitingly, gamers can expect a new trailer for Blades of Fire to debut later today during the Future Game Show’s Gamescom LATAM edition. Stay tuned as we will provide updates once the trailer is released.
