The Fortnite community recently faced disappointing news with the announcement of the impending shutdown of the OG Ranked Zero Build mode, effective March 4. While Fortnite continues to thrive with a diverse array of game modes, this particular termination has left a segment of the player base feeling let down.
In a tweet from the Fortnite Status account, the developers announced, “We’re disabling OG Ranked Zero Build for all server regions due to matchmaking health.”This decision stems from the mode’s failure to attract a sufficient player base. Although understandable, it raises concerns about the potential vulnerability of other less popular modes, which could face similar fates.
After the Closure of OG Ranked Zero Build, Could Fortnite Target Other Modes?
While Fortnite enjoys significant player traffic, not all modes achieve equal success. The base game has garnered immense popularity, particularly the Fortnite OG mode; however, OG Ranked Zero Build has struggled with its niche appeal. The term “matchmaking health”raises questions about what precisely constitutes a healthy player base; Epic Games may have different standards than the fans who are dedicated to the mode. This disparity puts other modes at risk of elimination, potentially upsetting the player community further.
The shutdown is set for March 4, but players in the EU and NAC server regions will have access until March 25. During this period, those outside these regions can adjust their settings to play on the active EU and NAC servers.

Last year, an announcement confirmed that Fortnite’s Rocket Racing mode would receive reduced support moving forward, as it struggled to capture a comparable audience to other launches such as LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival. This early indication suggested that other modes could face similar scrutiny. With the shutdown of OG Ranked Zero Build imminent, fears are now heightened for modes that have not secured a strong player following.
Anticipating Potential Changes in Fortnite for 2025
Currently, Epic Games has not publicly shared plans to discontinue any additional modes, but the recent changes raise the possibility of further adjustments. Fortnite has maintained its successful run for eight years, with its various modes being a crucial factor in this longevity. As the game evolves, it appears that Epic Games may discontinue modes with underwhelming performance.
Launched as a permanent fixture in December 2024, Fortnite OG demonstrated its drawing power by attracting over 1 million players merely 20 minutes post-launch. As we progress through the year, players are left wondering what other surprises await. For the time being, those who enjoy OG Ranked Zero Build still have limited time to indulge in this mode. Although the closure is disappointing, Fortnite remains a treasure trove of content. The original Zero Build mode continues to be available, allowing players to engage without the ranked component. Thus, while the shutdown of OG Ranked Zero Build is significant, it may simply be a minor setback in a much larger gaming landscape.
