Former NBA champion reveals Tony Brothers’ malicious comments about his mother & family
Jeff Teague, a former NBA All-Star and champion, recently recounted a tale involving NBA referee Tony Brothers. Despite retiring from professional basketball, Teague remains popular among fans due to his podcast appearances where he shares anecdotes from his playing days. These stories offer a unique perspective on his time in the league, providing fans with insights they may not have otherwise known.
During an episode of his podcast ‘Club 520,’ Teague recounted a past experience with Brothers while he was a player for the Atlanta Hawks. Teague stated that the NBA official attempted to make a joke, but the point guard did not find it humorous.
The reason for this is that the referee used an offensive term when referring to Teague’s family members.
“So [Tony Brothers] was trying to be cool,”said Teague. “We playing at the Pacers, I’m on the Hawks. My momma and my aunt was sitting courtside, you know they’re cheering every time I came in the game. I was young, I’m probably in my first or second year. He pulled me to the side, he was like, ‘Man, who them h***?’”
Teague was understandably not amused by Brothers’ joke and proceeded to berate the official who attempted to apologize.
He believed that Brothers attempted to come across as a ‘cool’ referee and Teague also expressed his strong dislike towards him.
Chris Paul Receives Technical Foul for Calling Referee a “TikToker”
During the game between the Indiana Pacers and the Golden State Warriors on Mar. 22, Chris Paul was ejected near the end of the game.
Despite only 6.6 remaining in the game and the Warriors being behind by 11 points (122-111), referee Tony Brothers gave Chris Paul his second technical foul. As a result, the Pacers were awarded free throws, ultimately contributing to their final score of 123-111.
During the postgame press conference, Paul was asked by reporters why he received the technical foul that ultimately resulted in his ejection.
According to Paul, he received both of his technical fouls in the game from the same referee. He explained that the first one was a result of him referring to veteran point guard Tony Brothers as a TikToker during their verbal exchange on the court.
“Tony [Brothers]. .. He’s talking to me, I talked back. I called him a TikToker, and I got a tech,”he said.
The second technical foul, which resulted in his ejection, was a result of Paul stating that Brothers had “excessive authority.”
In addition, Brothers also issued a technical foul to Hawks point guard Dejounte Murray for a peculiar reason. Despite sitting on the bench during a timeout, Murray was given the technical foul after allegedly disregarding the referee’s attempt to engage in a conversation.
