Former Cowboys veteran calls out Jerry Jones for overhyping painfully slow offseason
The NFL is no stranger to the names Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, who are both highly recognized. However, the 2024 offseason has been a major letdown for fans, prompting one retired player to speak out against it.
During Tuesday’s episode of “Get Up,”Marcus Spears, an NFL analyst, criticized Jerry Jones and the Cowboys for their minimal activity in the March free agency period.
“We heard ‘all in,’ everybody heard it.. .. Ain’t nothing been all in about this offseason,”Spears said. [00:02:23][24.1] Get Up.
The defensive end was under the leadership of Jerry Jones from 2005 until the conclusion of the 2012 season. In an effort to remain impartial, Spears acknowledged the team’s decision to acquire Eric Kendricks, but ultimately criticized their lack of additional acquisitions.
Spears’ criticism seemed to be directed at Jones’ assertion that the team would be fully committed. This was based on a quote reported by team journalist Nick Harris on NFL.com.
“I would anticipate — with looking ahead at our key contracts that we’d like to address — we will be all in,”Jones said.
Skip Bayless sparks controversy with Jerry Jones criticism
Despite the limited activity in free agency and ongoing negotiations for extensions with key players such as Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Mike McCarthy, there are those who are criticizing the general manager.
In March, Skip Bayless took to Twitter to call out Jones for his team’s lack of involvement in free agency.
Some believe that the team’s intention to secure Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons with costly new contracts in the near future prevented them from acquiring any significant new players.
Despite this, the pain of the moment was not lessened as other teams selected players like Christian Wilkins and Calvin Ridley before us.
Cowboys fans are currently relying on the 2024 NFL Draft as their only hope for acquiring game-changing talent. If this doesn’t happen, their next chance to do so without making a trade will be in 2025.
