Sony Expands Its Game Development Network with Dark Outlaw Games
In an exciting development for the gaming community, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the addition of a new first-party studio, Dark Outlaw Games, to its extensive roster of game development teams. This announcement marks an important milestone as Sony continues to evolve its portfolio from strong narrative-driven games to more multiplayer-oriented experiences.
Leadership by Industry Veteran Jason Blundell
Dark Outlaw Games will be spearheaded by Jason Blundell, a seasoned developer known for his contributions to the Call of Duty franchise, specifically through his work at Treyarch. Under his leadership, the studio aims to carve out a unique niche within the PlayStation ecosystem.
During a recent episode of Jeff Gerstmann’s Bonus Podcast, Blundell expressed his excitement about this new venture: “It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio. Sony doesn’t set up first-party studios all the time. To have that privilege is humbling; it’s really nice. I’m really excited.”
Jason Blundell’s Proven Track Record
Prior to his new role, Blundell enjoyed a notable career at Treyarch, contributing to several landmark titles such as Call of Duty 3, Black Ops, Black Ops 2 Zombies, and Black Ops 3. As a producer and director, he played a key role in shaping campaign narratives and zombie modes, solidifying his reputation within the gaming industry before leaving Treyarch in 2020 after 13 years of service.
Future Plans and Project Development
While Dark Outlaw Games is currently in the staffing phase and actively working on its inaugural project, specific details about their upcoming title remain under wraps. Blundell mentioned, “Dark Outlaw Games have been working away in the shadows for a while, and when we’ve got something to talk about, we’ll step out into the light. But you know the story for me is about the game, not about the studio.” This indicates a strong emphasis on delivering substantive content over mere announcements.
The studio is yet to confirm whether its debut title will focus on single-player gameplay or embrace a live service model, thereby leaving fans eager for more information.
