Fnatic and ONIC Miss Out on MLBB M6 World Championship Qualification

The well-known Indonesian esports team, Fnatic ONIC, did not succeed in qualifying for the MLBB M6 World Championship. Their journey during the MPL Indonesia Season 14 was disappointing, leading to their elimination from the competition. Only two slots were available for the upcoming M6 Championship, and currently, Team Liquid, Bigetron, RRQ Hoshi, and Geek Fam are still in contention.

Fnatic formed a partnership with ONIC in May 2024. This collaboration previously celebrated victory as champions of MPL Season 13, and ONIC also finished as the runner-up at the M5 World Championship. Unfortunately, expectations were not met this season as they ended up in fifth place.

Analysis of Fnatic ONIC’s Performance in MLBB MPL Season 14

During the initial phase, the Regular Season, Fnatic ONIC had an average performance. They concluded the Regular Season ranked fourth with a record of 10 wins and 6 losses. After a strong start with victories in their initial matches, they struggled to maintain their momentum.

Regardless of their ups and downs, Fnatic ONIC secured a fourth-place finish in the Regular Season, allowing them to advance to the Playoffs. RRQ Hoshi dominated this stage, winning 13 out of their 16 matches, while Team Liquid and Bigetron followed in second and third place, respectively. Geek Fam and Alter Ego rounded off the standings.

The qualified teams moved on to the Playoffs, leaving Dewa United, Rebellion, and EVOS Glory out of this MLBB event.

The Playoffs commenced on October 23, 2024, with Fnatic ONIC matched against Geek Fam in their opening match. The team put up a valiant fight but ultimately couldn’t secure the victory. They kicked off strongly, clinching the first round but faltered in the subsequent two rounds. Although they bounced back to win the fourth round, they fell short in the fifth round.

Alter Ego also faced elimination after losing to Bigetron Alph, having had an underwhelming season overall.

Next up, Bigetron will go head-to-head with Team Liquid in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, while Geek Fam is set to compete against RRQ Hoshi. All teams are vying for a top-two finish to secure a spot in the MLBB M6 World Championship, which is scheduled to kick off on November 21, 2024.
