  • Pugh is set to return to the big screen in Marvel’s Thunderbolts.

In a recent revelation, one of the actors from Thunderbolts shared what they consider the scariest movie, which certainly caught many off guard.

Typically, when asked about terrifying films, audiences might mention iconic horror or slasher classics such as Scream or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. However, Florence Pugh’s unique perspective on fear was brought to light during an interview. While promoting her 2019 film Midsommar, Pugh articulated a rather surprising choice that diverged from conventional horror films.

Celebrating her 29th birthday on January 3, Pugh appeared on The Late Show, where a clip sharing her insights resurfaced. While discussing Midsommar, she indicated that the movie didn’t frighten her; instead, she found the emotional turmoil of the characters “horrible to watch.” When host Stephen Colbert pressed her on what frightened her most, Pugh’s answer was unanticipated: “The first thing I ever watched that made me regret going to bed alone was The Lord of the Rings.”Colbert humorously countered her response, sharing that he often goes to bed watching the same film. Pugh humorously remarked on the orc characters, suggesting, “Just their faces… All of the orcs’ faces look like they really need some moisturizer,” which prompted laughs from Colbert.

The clip sparked a flurry of reactions among fans. While various viewers recounted their own interactions with Midsommar, some described the film as giving them “nightmares,”while others noted they could never watch it fully again. Conversely, many didn’t resonate with Pugh’s fear of The Lord of the Rings. Yet, others echoed her sentiments, acknowledging that the orcs’ daunting appearances could indeed be unsettling, particularly to younger viewers. One fan commented, “She’s not wrong! The orcs were a jump scare on first sight,” while another recognized the darker themes of violence and evil present in the narrative.

Pugh’s Upcoming Role in Marvel’s Thunderbolts

Pugh is anticipated to portray a pivotal role in the forthcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts, which is slated for release in just four months. During a brief discussion at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, she excitedly revealed a daring stunt she performed for the movie: “Jumping off the second tallest building in the world. Bye!” Her character, Yelena Belova, will lead a mismatched group of superheroes, including notable characters like Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan) and Red Guardian, portrayed by David Harbour, among others.

Pugh has previously shared her thoughts on the team dynamics of Thunderbolts, humorously noting that it’s not an ideal team because the characters often clash. This should create an entertaining backdrop as fans can expect to see Yelena’s leadership shine amidst a whirlwind of action, humor, and high-stakes scenarios with this unconventional group of antiheroes.

Thunderbolts is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
