English singer-songwriter and actress FKA Twigs has leveled serious allegations against her former partner, Shia LaBeouf, accusing him of employing deceptive legal strategies and avoiding his deposition. This comes in the wake of a lawsuit filed in December 2020, where FKA Twigs claimed LaBeouf was responsible for s*xual battery, assault, and inflicting emotional distress. In a recent court document submitted on October 18, her legal team asserted that LaBeouf has not fulfilled essential discovery requirements concerning his deposition.
“LaBeouf’s replies to the written discovery inquiries in this matter have been excessively evasive and unresponsive, which has led to a meager document production spanning just nine pages.”
The document indicated that LaBeouf had originally agreed to be deposed first, which would have placed FKA Twigs’ deposition later in the same week. LaBeouf, however, has refuted these allegations.
“It seems LaBeouf has something to conceal”: FKA Twigs’ Statement in Court
FKA Twigs has suggested that Shia LaBeouf’s behavior regarding his deposition is highly suspicious, describing him as “egregiously evasive and nonresponsive.” The court filing from October 18 revealed that LaBeouf abruptly became unavailable for his deposition scheduled on October 11. The statement further alleged that he might be hiding something, asserting:
“It seems LaBeouf has something to conceal, as he abruptly claimed to lack any further responsive documents, stating he either lost his electronic devices or discarded pertinent information before the commencement of this legal action.”
The filing noted that both parties had established “multiple agreements between counsel” to have their depositions taken within the same week, with LaBeouf to go first. It was alleged that the actor had gone back on his prior commitment.
In response to these claims, LaBeouf’s legal team contended that FKA Twigs had been preoccupied for the past two years, making it difficult for her to appear for her deposition. Moreover, they claimed that he had not consented to any prior arrangement regarding the order of depositions. Their filing stated:
“The Plaintiff’s demand to conduct Shia’s deposition first in a case that largely boils down to ‘he said, she said’ lacks valid justification for a protective order in her favor.”
They further elaborated:
“He should not suffer consequences from the Plaintiff’s strategy to defend against her $10 million claim.”
FKA Twigs’ Allegations of Abuse by Shia LaBeouf
Born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, FKA Twigs, known for her role in The Crow, and Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf initiated a romantic relationship after meeting on the set of Alma Har’el’s project, Honey Boy, in 2018.
The couple parted ways in spring 2019, and in December 2020, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing LaBeouf of s*xual battery, assault, and emotional distress, detailing numerous alleged abusive incidents.
One of the more shocking claims references an incident that purportedly took place after Valentine’s Day in 2019, where LaBeouf reportedly drove erratically without a seatbelt, threatening to crash unless FKA Twigs expressed her love for him. They were believed to be returning from a desert trip.
During one confrontation, after her pleas for him to stop, LaBeouf allegedly pulled over at a gas station, where FKA Twigs attempted to gather her belongings to leave. Instead, he purportedly assaulted her by forcefully pushing her against the vehicle, yelling, and compelling her to re-enter. The lawsuit alleges that throughout their travels, he frequently raged at her, even waking her in the night by choking her.
In another alleged incident, as per statements from FKA Twigs’ housekeeper included in the lawsuit, LaBeouf made an unwelcome visit while she was preparing to leave Los Angeles in spring, during which he allegedly terrorized her. When she declined to accompany him, he reportedly “violently grabbed”her and confined her in a separate room.
Additionally, FKA Twigs claimed that LaBeouf knowingly infected her with an STD. According to the lawsuit, in preparation for David Ayer’s film The Tax Collector in 2020, LaBeouf acted in such a methodical manner that he allegedly pulled a gun on set and even drove through Los Angeles, shooting stray dogs. She expressed to The New York Times:
“What I went through with Shia was the worst experience of my life.”
In subsequent legal responses, Shia LaBeouf denied all allegations, stating in an email to The New York Times:
“I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been harmful to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a record of causing pain to those closest to me. I regret that history and I apologize to those I have hurt. I don’t have anything else to add.”
A critical hearing in the ongoing case between Shia LaBeouf and FKA Twigs is anticipated for Friday, October 25, at which point a trial date will also be established.
